Life is Better in Stereo

Stereo vs. Mono. Sound with separation and depth vs. single, unvaried tone. I think, if given the option, we’d all choose to project sound in the former. Bear with me here… play the track below from your laptop or built-in computer speakers. Doesn’t sound so hot, huh? Now plug in your usual headphones or speakers (preferably with bass-amplification) and check it out. Rich, lush, sexy and oh-so-Miami.
“Chiketere (John Roman’s DANCING TIME Remix)” – Disco Villains
That’s how I like to think of my one-week stint in sunny Florida. An opportunity to escape NYC and experience the multi-faceted party perspectives of another city. There was a cool synchronicity to my trip, as I got to meet two talented DJs who are very much a part of the Miami scene – Joe Maz of Señor Stereo and Eyal Agai aka Pirate Stereo (get the stereo theme now?) I met Eyal at Bardot, a great spot that simultaneously resembles a game hall and the personal library of oh, say, Ron Burgundy. I couldn’t believe the roster of talented DJs spinning that night – Brodinski, DJ Mehdi, Busy P, Sebastian – just to name a few. Eyal throws some great parties and has some free remixes on his website that are well worth checking out.
“Babe We’re Gonna Love Tonite (Pirate Stereo Remix)” – Senor Stereo
My encounter with Joe Maz came compliments of DJ Gunars who is very much a fixture of the Miami music scene. He took my boyfriend and I on a VIP tour of clubs at the W Hotel, Florida Room and Rok Bar where he is a resident DJ. I got all fan-girl when he introduced me to Joe and I may have serenaded him with my own tone-deaf version of “Babe We’re Gonna Love Tonight” (eek!). As a member of Señor Stereo and Discotech, Joe’s got an awesome and distinctive production style. If you’re into Cut Copy, Avicii, Grum, Duck Sauce and just all around upbeat dance music, be sure to check out his Terminal Velocity mix below. I was blasting it from our rental car stereo the entire trip.
Joe Maz - Terminal Velocity [Mix from 1/2011] by joemaz
I’ve been out a few times since returning to my beloved NYC and I can’t say I’d willingly trade the club scene here for any other city. New York has all the stereo I need!
