Cut Copy at Terminal 5 NYC - April 1, 2011

Aussie transplants, Brooklyn hipsters and electro-pop fans of all shapes and sizes converged at NYC’s Terminal 5 (the club formerly known as Exit) last night to see Cut Copy perform. Well, when I say “converge”, I’m euphemizing. It was more like throngs of drunk girls with zero rhythmic skills fist pumping sideways, directly into my face. But I digress… the show was truly awesome. Holy Ghost! got the crowd dancing with a solid opening set but Cut Copy blew them out of the water. Frontman Dan Whitford’s vocals were on point and eerily reminiscent of Talking Head’s lead singer David Byrne. Highlights included a dance version of “Lights & Music” complete with a light show, “Hearts on Fire” as Whitford gestured the lyrics, and a rousing encore of “Need You Now” off their newest album, Zonoscope. Those fans smart enough to realize the show wasn’t about to end after one encore enjoyed a reprisal. My friends and I pushed to the front of the stage, allowing me to snap one decent photo from my cell phone as seen above. I’m a little bummed I dropped the ball on getting LCD Soundsystem tix this week but Cut Copy more than satiated my electro appetite. Cheers to them!

Sidenote: Miami write-up is forthcoming… I’ve been dealing with a crap internet connection the past few days :P
