Happy (almost) B-day to eleKtroMess and the Best of 2010!

I can’t believe my little pet project, eleKtroMess, is already 1 year old! I wanted to give a massive THANKS to my readers and supporters out there on the interwebz and couldn’t think of a better gift than to present my Top 15 Tracks of 2010! So without further ado and in no particular order:
1. “Starry Eyed (Russ Chimes Remix)” – Ellie Goulding
This remix dropped in January and I still adore it as much as I did on the very first listen… talk about an epic piano house drop. Russ Chimes + Ellie Goulding = winning combo.
2. “Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix)” – Massive Attack
Pretty much the sexiest remix ever. The folks over at Lincoln had the right idea when they stuck it in their tv promos… although “Town Car” isn’t exactly what I’d associate with “sexy ride”. Oh well.
3. “My Feelings For You” – Sebastien Drums & Avicii
Awesome update of a classic dance hit. Avicii stole my heart this year with his performance at Electric Zoo.
4. “In the Summer (Genuine Guy Remix)” – Crystal Fighters
Low-tempo, dark, and sultry with fantastic vocals from Crystal Fighters.
5. “Ghost (Midnight Conspiracy Remix)” – Gemini Club
Propulsive remix, perfect for DJ sets. See here for more from Gemini Club.
6. “Poison (Van She Tech Remix)” – Martina Topley Bird
One of my favorite bass lines with a great intro that slowly builds into a proper electro track. Groovy!
9 MORE FAVES AFTER THE JUMP!
7. “Pick Up The Phone (Michael Van Schie Remix)” - Dragonette
Michael Van Schie branched off from Van She Tech to create a super-fun, dancey remix of Dragonette’s hit song.
8. “Salt Skin (Alex Metric Remix)” – Ellie Goulding
Alex Metric always pulls through with awesome remixes. I just discovered this from Russ Chimes’ Expressway Pt. 2 mix – the drop at 2:55 is INSANE!
9. “ADD SUV (Armand Van Helden Vocal Remix)” – Uffie (featuring Pharrell)
Uffie’s chorus hysterically listing the ailments afflicting our over-medicated society combined with Van Helden’s uptempo dance beat put some major oomph into the summer festival playlists (note: Duck Sauce’s “Barbra Streisand” accomplished the same effect and was a close contender for this list)
10. “Cosmic Love (P.E.S.T Remix)” – Florence & the Machine
Florence & the Machine blew up big-time this year, performing at the MTV Video Music Awards, SNL, and all over Julia Roberts’ star vehicle “Eat Pray Love”. P.E.S.T’s remix is absolutely EPIC with massive drum and bass beats (note: I think this remix came out in Dec. ’09 but I’m including it anyway due to F & M’s prominence in 2010)
11. “Stylo (Alex Metric Remix)” – Gorillaz
Gorillaz returned to the spotlight this year with the release of their album “Plastic Beach”. Their single “Stylo” was remixed by pretty much everyone but Alex Metric again proved he’s the man to beat, making massive improvements on the original.
12. “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Tommie Sunshine’s Quaalude Edit” – Arcade Fire
The title pretty much says it all – sprawling, bright, and somewhat trippy but most definitely awesome!
13. “What You Know (LightsoverLA Remix)” – Two Door Cinema Club
Such a clean, subtle, lovely remix… I never get sick of listening to this.
14. “Heartbeat Song (Edwin van Cleef Remix)” – The Futureheads
Fred Falke must’ve fallen off the wagon this year (seriously, what happened?!) but good thing Edwin van Cleef was there to catch the fall. This remix literally sparkles with electro-disco harmonies.
15. “Los Feeling (Alan Braxe Remix)” - Visitor
I’d say Alan Braxe was also there to catch the Falke-fall… “Los Feeling” was one of my favorite tracks of 2009 and this remix is absolutely perfect, in my opinion. Fantastic opening build and soaring melodies throughout.
So what do you think - agree? disagree? love it? hate it? Let me know in the comments! :->
