Electric Daisy Carnival coming to NY!
Electric Zoo was disappointing for me last year so I can’t tell you how ecstatic I am that for the first time ever, New York City will play host to Electric Daisy Carnival! The video above is a nice teaser but I can’t wait to see the lineup. Festival dates are May 19 & 20, tickets go on sale Friday March 2 at 3 PM. Stay tuned to http://electricdaisycarnival.com/ for details.

"Mellow" - Nause
Don’t be fooled by the title - the latest track from Avicii’s Swedish compatriot, Nause, may not be as aggro as dubstep but it’s certainly not mellow. Uptempo with flutes and a whistle-along melody, this is perfect to get yourself up and moving after a Friday night hangover. Bonus points for the bizzarre, psychedelic bike ride music vid.

Funky Vodka - TJR
Feel like there’s a big gaping hole in your hearts where Duck Sauce once resided? Not to worry - TJR is here with a booming reggae/house blend reminiscent of Armand van Helden and A-Trak (minus Barbra Streisand). Sampling Toots & the Maytals, its funky beat is perfect to kick off your Friday night!

Somebody That I Used To Know (Asenso 'Dark Knight'...
I know I said I wouldn’t post another remix of Gotye’s track after Dimitry Mak’s mashup but… I lied. Newcomer producer Asenso puts his unique spin on the track with multi-layered drum beats, bells, and dark, squelching horns. The drop at 2:28 is refreshingly unexpected. Enjoy!

V-Day Beats
Disclaimer: I think Valentine’s Day is a sham of a holiday, created by Hallmark execs banking on the tears of single women and the sheer anxiety of men in monogamous relationships the world over. That being said, it’s a great opportunity to fix you up with some swoon-worthy beats. P.S. If you’re in the NYC area and looking for a sexy spot to bring your loved one (or to pick up...

Devil's Work (Alex Metric Remix) - Miike Snow
Sometimes you can just look at the artist and remixer of a track and know without a doubt it’s going to be awesome. Miike Snow + Alex Metric = Exhibit A, ladies and gents. There’s something for everyone here - piano house, driving drum beats, scratching. The remix dropped about a month ago so excuse my tardiness on the find!

Reckless With Your Love (The Aston Shuffle Remix)...
Say what you will about the relevance (or lack thereof) of Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime show, the woman has always been one step ahead of the curve. Sure, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna, Kelis and a slew of other pop artists preceded her in snagging David Guetta to produce their albums… but guess who just earned a billion awesome points by asking Toronto four-piece Azari & III to join her...

Mashup Monday - Gotye x Deadmau5 x Dimitry Mak
Not gonna lie, when Dimitry Mak of Modern Machines sent me a link to his mashup of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” and Deadmau5’s “You And I” remix, I almost wrote it off. DON’T MAKE THAT MISTAKE!!! Dimitry’s blend is by far my favorite take on Gotye’s track, which has oversaturated the remix market. These two songs go together like...

Avicii Super Bowl Ad!
Intent on gaining world domination, everyone’s favorite DJ, Avicii, will be starring in a Bud Light commercial during tonight’s Super Bowl so be sure to watch out for it. Also if you’ve been living under a rock, Madonna will be performing her new single “Give Me All Your Luvin’” with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A…. I’m just relieved I won’t have to...

Hatiras & Nom De Strip - "Roman Bromanski"
I honestly don’t know why I’m so into this track considering it’s more a cacophony of bleeps, bloops and blips than anything. It’s like… polka fidget house? Nevertheless, Hatiras maintains enough build and suspense to keep it interesting. Hatiras & Nom De Strip - Roman Bromanski (Original Mix)

Weekly Beats - 28 January 2012
This week brought some exciting new releases and teasers from artists known and new: Afrojack’s follow-up to “Take Over Control” is a bit more mainstream, with vocals from Connie Mitchell soundalike Shermanology. It still has that signature aggro-Afrojack touch and is sure to be one of the most played songs of 2012. You can never go wrong with Michael Woods but this...

I just came to say Hello!
Well hello, internet… it’s been a while! With everyone asking me for music recommendations lately, I felt compelled to make my triumphant return to blogging. Law school is keeping me very busy but I always make time for electro-rummaging! Here are the tracks on my steady iPod rotation this week: Aussie duo Parachute Youth have released this brilliant gem of a song from their debut...

Fabian's "Last Flight"
Deepest apologies for my prolonged absence, elektro-kids. I’ve recently become a scholar of the law in the hope that one day I’ll be kicking ass and taking names as an entertainment attorney, representing the likes of Avicii the next time Leona Lewis tries to step. Had to take a moment however, to post the latest from Fabian. I’ve been obsessively over-playing his single...

Spotlight On: Alesso
There must be something in the water in Sweden…. Hot on the tail of Avicii is 18 year old Alesso. He was recently signed to Sebastian Ingrosso’s label Refune and major players like Tiesto and Swedish House Mafia have been dropping his songs right and left. Take one listen to “Nillionaire” and you’ll see what all the fuss is about. In a wink and nod to his Swedish compatriots, he’s also done a...

Last Night Russ Chimes Saved My Life
All this talk of The Rapture has me fearing just one thing: if the world ends on May 21, I won’t get to hear electro-god Russ Chimes’ Tonic/Helix EP in full. The album is set to release on Uno Mas records on May 23 and has support from an insane roster of DJs: Alex Metric, Grum, Rocoe (RESET!), Aston Shuffle, Treasure Fingers, Jaymo & Andy George, Starsmith, Broke One, Phonat,...

Beer + Electro = A Winning Combo
I’ve noticed a trend in the past year that I’m sure many others have picked up on: electronic music has become very prominent in television advertising. Gui Borrato’s remix of Massive Attack’s “Paradise Circus” is in a commercial for Lincoln. Leggy models strut down the runway to Duck Sauce’s “Barbra Streisand” for Express.  And now, Heineken...

Life is Better in Stereo
Stereo vs. Mono. Sound with separation and depth vs. single, unvaried tone. I think, if given the option, we’d all choose to project sound in the former. Bear with me here… play the track below from your laptop or built-in computer speakers. Doesn’t sound so hot, huh? Now plug in your usual headphones or speakers (preferably with bass-amplification) and check it out. Rich, lush, sexy and...

Cut Copy at Terminal 5 NYC - April 1, 2011
Aussie transplants, Brooklyn hipsters and electro-pop fans of all shapes and sizes converged at NYC’s Terminal 5 (the club formerly known as Exit) last night to see Cut Copy perform. Well, when I say “converge”, I’m euphemizing. It was more like throngs of drunk girls with zero rhythmic skills fist pumping sideways, directly into my face. But I digress… the show was truly awesome. Holy Ghost! got...

Countdown to Miami: Ultra Edition
I don’t actually have tickets to Ultra festival, nor do I feel obliged to purchase them (I think they’re sold out anyway). There’s enough talent in Miami to go around and I don’t feel like suffocating among herds of sun drenched, sweaty raver kids on a tiny fairground. I’ll save that for the Dust Bowl of 2011 known as Electric Zoo. But for those of you determined to brave the crowds, here’s a...

I’m absolutely ecstatic about the pool parties and am determined to weasel my way...

In search of a female vocalist to fill the shoes of Ellie Goulding/Adele/La Roux/Fill in the blank? Look no further than Danish electro-pop songstress Oh Land. Countdown to Ultra: Spotlight on Avicii
The countdown to Miami’s Ultra Music Festival begins! Bikini Bod Beats
February tends to be a ruthless month of cold, harsh winds and snowstorms that eventually melt into NYC gutter-slush-puddles. Luckily, this year February was punctuated with unseasonably warm days reminding us that spring is just around the corner. Bleeps, Blips and Whah’s
One thing I love about electronic music is that it has a language all its own. Every track has a unique vocabulary of bleeps, blips, pews, and growls that can be altered at the touch of a button. DivKid’s newest track revolves around the “whah” sound of bit-crushed and filtered synths. As always, the original is accompanied by an excellent remix package and has been getting a lot of big-name DJ...

Artist in Review: The Carnival Royale
Photo courtesy of Sarah Stevens You all know me as being electro-obsessed but truth be told, I was a rock fan for many years before I discovered dance music. Indie rock, alternative, classic rock – you name it, I was into it. I got a huge thrill off discovering bands none of my friends had ever heard of and was frankly a little bummed when said artists made it big because they were no longer my...

New Year’s Resolutionist Gym Playlist
Confession: I get very cranky this time of year in large part due to a certain group of people I like to call the “New Year’s Resolutionists”… you know, the ones who decide THIS is the year they’re going to whip their fat asses into shape. They crowd the gym and hog the machines like it’s nobody’s business for a month or two and by February they’ve long given up. As a year-round gym-rat, this...

DivKid kicks off 2011 in REAL dubstep style!
The word “dubstep” is getting tossed around a lot these days thanks to the release of Britney Spears’ new single “Hold It Against Me”. Well, I got news for ya kids, it AIN’T dubstep! Or at least the type of dubstep I can audibly discern or throw my support behind. That being said, I’m all for pop artists producing tracks with electro beats and I’m even more supportive of electro artists remixing...

Girl Talk ID'ed
Mashup DJ Girl Talk recently released his fifth studio album entitled All Day to much pomp and circumstance and server-crashing fury. Offered for (gasp!) free on record label Illegal Art’s website, the album samples 372 songs in 71 minutes. I personally find his work too frenetic for long-term listening (I prefer A-Trak’s more subtle song merging and scratch transitions) but I totally respect his...
